Functions and Algebra – FA
9th, 10th, 11th Grade (Cycle d’Orientation)
Course Overview
I designed and developed this course specifically for students in the “Cycle d’Orientation” in Switzerland. The aim was to help students build essential mathematical skills, laying a solid foundation for their academic progress and future career choices. This course covers key mathematical concepts such as functions, algebra, and proportionality in an engaging and accessible manner.
Showcasing Digital Tools and Techniques
To enhance the learning experience, I utilized a range of digital tools and innovative techniques:
- Moodle Platform Integration: The course is hosted on Moodle, taking advantage of its native elements like quizzes, interactive activities, and feedback systems.
- SCORM Packages: Leveraging SCORM-compliant content created with H5P and Articulate Storyline to offer interactive and engaging lessons.
- Visual Aids: Numerous custom graphics were generated to illustrate key concepts, such as function graphs, data comparisons, and algebraic processes.
- Video Resources: Carefully curated third-party videos with open-use licenses were integrated to reinforce core topics and provide alternative explanations.
Course Content
The course curriculum is structured into the following main sections:
- Functions and Graphs: Covers introduction to functions, linear functions, and quadratic functions.
- Equations: Includes solving equations with one or two variables and exploring systems of equations.
- Proportionality: Topics like percentage, scale, slope, average speed, and flow rate.
- Diagrams: Teaches reading and creating bar charts and comparing data sets.
- Literal Calculations: Basics of literal calculations, operations with monomials, simplifying and multiplying polynomials.
